Ultrasound Festival
Major experimental sounds in Hungary
[2003-09-04]

Ultrasound Festival Sept. 25 ? 28th, 2003, Budapest/ Szeged, Hungary.

What a treat! Music fans in Hungary have the opportunity to witness another exclusive gathering of nearly thirty experimental electronic wizards from thirteen countries. After the already well-established X-Peripheria festival (held in spring time) comes Ultrasound festival, which will, within four days, present some of the most important sound artists/bands around ? those, who are very much likely to take part in determining underground musical tendencies in the near future and, at the same time, to influence popular genres.

The organisers talk about ?a mixture of ?reinvented? dance music, improvisation techniques, researches on sound,sound- scapes and micro aesthetics? and the list of performing artists (below) confirms that statement. But the names (Kid 606, Vladislav Delay, Frank Brettschneider, Kim Cascone, Stephan Mathieu etc.) are not the only seduction. The festival is structured into four days (three in Budapest and the last one in Szeged), each of them filled with two or three concert blocks (from early afternoon till dawn) including three or four shows. These blocks are going to take place in many different and often quite unconventional spaces with unique sound environment ? a puppet theatre, underground club, restaurant, tea house, photo museum, old synagogue, the Academy of Music and even on board of a ship. Some of these venues have very limited capacity (afternoon shows with just 50 tickets) and therefore it seems very wise to book the tickets well ahead via the above mentioned festival website. There you can also get free entry to the opening concerts on September 25th at Budapest Puppet Theatre by undergoing a simple registration procedure. More free tickets will soon be given out to the winners of various competitions, which are to be equally found on the festival website.

Ultrasound festival will of course feature shows by several artists from post-communist countries: the crowds may look forward Hungarian electronic projects Tigrics, Nicron, ?n, Fluidum and Prell, plus Andrey Kiritchenko (Ukraine) and Belgradeyard Sound System (Yugoslavia).

Moreover, early risers can participate in workshops led by some of the artists.

The invited artists:

Abstract Monarchy Quartet(A/H), AGF (D), Andrey Kiritchenko (UA), Belgradeyard Sound System (YU), ?n (H), Fluidum (H), Fon (A), Frank Bretschneider (D), Fx Randomiz (D), Gert-Jan Prins (NL), Goem (NL), Heimir Bj?rg?lffsson (IS), I-Sound (USA), Kim Cascone (USA), Larsen (I), Alejandra and Aeron (SP/USA), Luomo (SF), Nicron (H), Prell (H), Sheriff (S), Stephan Mathieu (D), Thilges3 (A), Kid606 (USA), DJ /rupture (USA), Dwayne Sodahberk (S), Tigrics (H), Vladislav Delay (SF), Wasteland (UK/USA)
